Who was boiled in oil by means of punishment?

Lecture Museum Youth University for ages 8-12.

In a catchy lecture drs. Cor de Graaf of the Regionaal Archief (Regional Archive) recounts the history of a professional coiners gang, active in the 16th century in the city of Leiden and far beyond the city parameter.

The punishment for coinery was to be boiled in hot oil, which begs the question: were coiners ever really boiled? Or was it all just a case of scare mongering to keep people from transgression? On the techniques of coiners, their punishments and of their (sweet) revenge.

Lecture in Dutch!
