Pieter ter Keurs: what and how did museums collect in the 19th century?

The last one in our series of readings on collecting. Pieter ter Keurs is head of collections at the RMO. Museum De Lakenhal was established in the 19th century. This reading gives an insight into the motives and basic idea behind the collection of De Lakenhal.

As special professor ‘Anthropology of the Material Culture’ at the University of Leiden, Ter Keurs is specialised in research on the relations between people, their material culture and collecting of that culture.
