Rembrandt's Landscapes

Stedelijk Museum De Lakenhal presents the exhibition Rembrandt's Landscapes, from 6 October 2006 through 7 January 2007. This is the first retrospective on the landscapes that Rembrandt made. Well over 100 works from famous collections from around the world will be brought together for this exhibition. Only eight of Rembrandt's painted landscapes have been preserved, seven of which will be on display in Leiden, with a selection of his fascinating drawings and etchings.

The exhibition Rembrandt the Narrator. Etchings from the Frits Lugt Collection, at The Lakenhal Municipal Museum, offers an overview of Rembrandt’s world-famous etchings with subjects ranging from everyday life, to the Bible and mythological stories. The exhibition includes over 200 sheets and runs from 13 April to 3 September 2006, in Leiden. This is the first time that the Frits Lugt collection of Rembrandt etchings has been lent in its entirety for an exhibition.

On 14 December 2005, the Rembrandt 400 year will be opened by the exhibition Rembrandt’s mother, myth and reality in Stedelijk Museum De Lakenhal. It is the start of a year in which the 400th anniversary of Rembrandt’s birth in Leiden is being celebrated with special exhibitions and events in Leiden, Amsterdam and The Hague. H.M. Queen Beatrix is the patroness of the Rembrandt memorial year and will attend the opening ceremony.

A whole year of Rembrandt in Stedelijk Museum De Lakenhal, Leiden
2006 marks the 400th anniversary of the birth of Rembrandt van Rijn in Leiden. This will be celebrated across the country under the title of Rembrandt 400. His hometown will be host to lots of activities, including a Rembrandt reception hall, a special Rembrandt walk and a Rembrandt festival around his birthday.
Stedelijk Museum De Lakenhal is organising three special exhibitions which will be supplemented by an introductory presentation about his life and work in Leiden. Besides this, there will be various expositions in De Lakenhal showing how Rembrandt is still inspiring artists in their work nowadays.
