THE MUSEUM IS STILL OPEN!

12 May 2016

Preparations for the restoration and expansion of Museum De Lakenhal are in full swing. It is expected that the museum will continue to stay open for the public until mid-2016.

In February of this year, the second round of the tender procedure kicked off with the purpose of finding the contractor who will implement the renewal project. It has since become clear that this procedure will take more time than initially anticipated. The offers that have been received so far all exceed the initial budget and the tender procedure has therefore been paused for now. Over the coming weeks, all offers will be evaluated. Once that has been completed, a new procedure will start, during will all parties will be invited to discuss optimisation possibilities. This additional procedure is expected to take at least two to three extra months.

Until that procedure is completed, the museum will remain open to the public. Our renowned collection, which includes art, artistry and history and is housed in a remarkable Cloth Hall, will ensure that your visit is diverse and inspiring. Meanwhile, the preparations for the expansion and restoration programme will continue behind the scenes. In collaboration with the Municipality of Leiden, the museum is doing everything it can to minimize delays as much as possible.
