COLLECTORS

Agnes Jansen - Van Daalen

Instant pudding packets

My collector’s item is the pudding mould. Now I am looking for instant pudding packets who were produced in The Netherlands in the 19th and 20th century. Apart from pudding moulds I collect information about the factories Honig, Victrix, Thermos, A. J. Polak and many others.

Albertine van Walsem

I absolutely love the fifties and collect everything from that era. Piggy banks are a must!

Ami Ben-Shitrit & Zion Ben_Shitrit

Antique record player

We own an antiques store in Israel.

Angelique Bosch van Drakestein

Picture English garden

I took this picture in an English garden. I actually am a garden architect looking for Paradise.

Anna van Eeuwijk

Art Deco clockwork

I have a great passion for Art-Deco objects. During a family reunion I was lucky enough to spot an Art-Deco cabinet in a little shop, which matches this clock perfectly. They both have brown marbled plates, that’s why at home the clock is always placed on top of the cabinet.

Annet Vrouwenvelder

Children’s book

As a child I never had books, but as soon as I could afford to buy books I started building up a big collection. To compensate the lack of books when I was younger.

Annette Los

Coin

I used to work for the National Museum of Coins and Medals and I’m still in love with antique coins.

Anton Poptie

Rolleiflex

It’s fair to say I have a thing for camera’s. This Rolleiflex from 1939 has been in the family for a long time. It now belongs to my daughter.

B.C. Homans

Old documents with seals

They are old, beautiful, hand written with a magnificent seal.

Etching, of Filips van Marnix and others

Dinky Toy

I have a number of Dinky Toys. This is a crucial one in my collection, I’ve had it for 49 years.

Bart van Mossel

Ceramic mussel

Van Mossel has a modest collection of mussel objects at home. This ceramic mussel is special because it was presented to him to mark his ten-year anniversary as director of the Leidse Schouwburg. Apart from the fact his last name is Van Mossel, the collection came to be because he loves the sea and enjoys eating shell-fish.

Bas Martens

Picture of a Boxer

This is a picture of Willy, our dog who passed away. The photo was made by Maarten Wetsema.

Benjamin Koerselman

Urinal

I picked this urinal from the museum collection, because it is an unusual object in the collection of De Lakenhal and it refers to an artwork by Marcel Duchamp.

Bert Bulder

Camera

This Hasselblad camera is exactly as old as Bert Bulder himself. It is its outstanding quality that makes this object so special.

Bert Wikkerink

KLM airplane

To bring our Dutch pride into my home.

Beryl Flikweert

Dinner set

Likes special objects which are usable at the same time, she uses her collection to make season tables for example. This little dinner set is special because she played a lot with it as a child. It broke several times but was glued back together with ordinary Velpon glue.

Boers

Tobacco pocket and book, and chandelier

We collect all things tobacco and Terre de Pipe (French pottery).

Bor en Ted

I chose this artwork of Pieter Geraedts from my own collection, because Pieter Geraedts is one of the best artists of Leiden.

Eddy Huiskamp

Michelin

I collect everything of Michelin: pens, stickers, dolls etc. Especially the older stuff is quite rare. I think it’s a funny little man. The Michelin-man was designed in 1898 by Mister Michelin – the director of the tire factory – himself. He looked at a stack of tires and thought it resembled a little man. My wife collects something very different: globes.

Els van Eijk van Heslinga

Cooking pot from the 16th century

Evelien Sandberg

Goblet of Winter Queen dating from 1641

Fennie Pruim

M.A.S.H. DVD box

Has a large DVD collection and is a fan of the television series M.A.S.H. in particular. The typical M.A.S.H. humour and the nostalgic feeling appeal to her.

Fieke Pabst

Bracelet

The designer of this bracelet is Irene Bakker. It tells a special story, because the designer is the ex of her current husband. At home she has more objects by Irene Bakker, but the material makes this bracelet stand out: it’s made of lots of small metal rings.

Fons Dijkstra

Composing stick

This composing stick comes from the collection of the Mobiel Grafisch Musem in Susteren.

Fred Kuijers

Corkscrews

Corkscrews are unique objects, they haven’t really changed throughout the centuries. I brought along two examples: U-Neek from 1917 and Royal Hull from 1862. The design of the last one is still in use, which makes it timeless.

Frits van Oostrom

Choirbook from the 16th century.

Gejus van Diggele

Playing card

This is a re-used French playing card, dating from about 1770, with on the back a hand-written musical piece for a violin ensemble. I am fascinated by the many ways playing cards were re-used. H. van der Kooij

Barbie doll

Has a collection of around 500 Barbie dolls. At home he has two rooms to house his collection: one room for the real, original Barbie dolls and one room for replica’s. This Barbie doll is a replica, the original Barbie dolls are too valuable to bring along.

Ida Schiphouwer

Doll in coffin

I am interested in (art) objects that have to do with mourning.

Ingrid Jansen

Christmas balls

I like old Christmas balls, because they often have very nice colouring. Especially the ones which are painted by hand. Christmas balls with a ‘dent’ are also beautiful, in particular when they hang in the Christmas tree with a light behind them. What makes Christmas balls special is that they are kept for many years. Every year they are taken down from the attic, unwrapped and hung in the tree. It’s wonderful that something so fragile, stays around for so long and even appears on Collectors Fairs.

Jenny de Bruin

Brat

Jetteke Bolten

Piece of jewellery

This ring is made of a silver guilder. The guilder this ring was made of dates from before 1967 because that was when they stopped making guilders of silver. The silver got more valuable than the guilder itself. The guilder was manually made into a ring.

John Stelck

Beatles record 'Rubber Soul' from 1965

He can’t live without the Beatles. At home he has a large crate with all the records of the band. The cover is special because of the oblong faces on the cover. This distortion was a sensation, but came to be by accident: when projecting the photograph on an example cover, the cover slid slightly backwards causing a stretched image. The Beatles were immediately enthusiastic.

Karen Polder

Sixties poster

As a graphic designer she loves posters very much. This one is special because it is a De Stijl poster, but it doesn’t show all the characteristics of De Stijl. The poster is on display in her bedroom all the time.

Coins

I started collecting coins when the Euro was introduced. There are beautiful, diverse coins. Of each country I have the Euro and several other coins.

Lieke Timmermans

Skull

I am a subconscious collector of antlers, shark teeth, bones etcetera. My collection is unstructured and I don’t mind things breaking: I regularly have to replace the antlers on the play hut in the garden because they fall off: because of the weather or the children. I never quite find out.

Luc Favie en Donna Camp

Baroness - Red Album / Jethro Tull - Songs from the Woods

Donna, Jethro Tull: music is my greatest passion. I also love nostalgia.
Luc, Barnoess: The smell and design of vinyl is great. To listen to music on this format and to have the artwork this big, a download can’t beat that. I have a passion for coloured vinyl, that looks amazing. It is a homage to the artist.

Matilde Zijp

Pim, by Bunny Soeters

This dog Pim of papier mâché is made by Bunny Soeters. As an artist I swap work with colleagues now and again. Many people think the dog is ugly, so does my husband. But I like it and that’s why it’s prominently on display on the piano in the living room.

Meta Knol
