Meer informatie

My name is Niloufar Farhadi, a visual artist born in Gilan, Iran. Currently, I live in Leiden, Netherlands and I am working on my several projects in my lovely studio at amazing building of Haagweg 4. My art activities are focused on painting, ceramic, glaze and pottery.
My artistic style lies at the intersection of conceptual and contemporary figurative art. I explore themes of human presence and absence, individual and collective memory, and traces of human experiences through objects and spaces. My works resemble fictional stories in which objects act as symbols to narrate human lives and experiences. I work with materials such as oil paint, phosphorescent paints (which only appear at night), charcoal, pencils, clay, fabric, and recycled materials.
In my art works I'm fascinated by how an object can hold and preserve the story of someone else's life. In other words, how humans leave traces behind as time passes—like a memory of a fleeting moment that becomes permanent, eventually forming a kind of colony of memories. This colony manifests as a formless form, a form with a history. People come and go, but their traces remain and evolve into new forms. My art is a collection of memories whose presence is actually the result of a collective absence. This constant presence and absence turns into a kind of "presence" that becomes visible through objects.
