This program focuses on the process of decolonisation within the arts and cultural sector in the Netherlands, with a dedicated focus on the Caribbean, not only as a region shaped by Dutch colonial violence and imperialism, but also as a space of rich cultural heritage and resilience. As part of the program two selected films by artist and filmmaker Kevin Osepa will be screened, Watamula and La Última Ascensión, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Quinsy Gario.

  • 14:30 - 15:00 Walk-in and introduction by Leiden Shorts, and Tanja Elstgeest, director Museum De Lakenhal
  • 15:00 - 16:00 Screening of Watamula and La Última Ascensión, introduction by programmer of Leiden Shorts
  • 16:00 - 16:45 Panel Discussion on the role of art as a form of representation in postcolonial spaces and a way of decolonial resistance. Panellists: Gerlov van Engelenhoven (Leiden University), Tanja Elstgeest (director Museum De Lakenhal), moderation by Quinsy Gario (artist, activist and performance poet)
